Starlink, done properly

I run Starlink myself. It is a good link and an unusual one, and most of what goes wrong with it is not the dish.

What I build

  • Placement and mounting with the obstruction map actually checked, not guessed.
  • Your own router behind the dish. The Starlink router goes into bypass mode and a real firewall takes over, so the network on this site’s Networks page is possible at all.
  • A second uplink for failover where it matters: a cellular modem or a hotspot that takes over automatically, and hands back when Starlink returns.
  • The quirks handled up front. Starlink puts you behind carrier-grade NAT, so nothing outside can reach in directly — cameras, a private cloud, remote support all need a tunnel, and I build one. On my own link, outbound DNS on the usual port was filtered while everything else passed; the fix was encrypted DNS on a port the link allows. I check for that on yours rather than finding it later.
  • Honest expectations. I tell you what the link can and cannot do before you buy anything from anyone.

What I don’t claim

I am not Starlink and hold no certification from them. I am someone who runs it, has measured it, and builds around it.

Where it starts

A conversation first. Then an assessment, with a fixed price quoted before I start.

Tell me what you have and what worries you. If what you need is really a house call, I'll say so and point you at My Computer Therapy instead.
